Dessert Fundraiser - April 17th
Written on 10 March 2008 by adminHey all you Friends of David and Shelbie Cho!!! Remember that fundraiser/dessert that didn’t happen in the fall last year? Well, it’s time!!! Time! TIME!!!!
The Date: April 17th
The Time: 7pm - 9:30pm
The Place: The Waterford at Springfield
The Details: Join us on Thursday, April 17th for an informal dessert reception to raise the remaining funds necessary to pay off Shelbie’s 2nd home equity loan. Tickets to attend the dessert at the Waterford cost $20 (suggested donation) AT THE DOOR. Most of us don’t think of spending $20 for dessert and a great evening out, so let’s spend $20 to benefit a great cause. Trust me, the food is WONDERFUL, and for $20 you’ll get to eat great desserts, hang out with new and old friends and have a great time!
AND…. THERE WILL BE PRIZES!!!!
There will be a raffle ($25 per raffle ticket or 5 for $100) with a drawing at the end of the evening… We know you’re busy, so winners need not be present. The grand prize will be Four (4) VIP passes to the 2008 Redskins training camp. This includes a tour of the training facility, inside access to the players and star treatment all the way. Our grand prize is courtesy of the generous folks at the Redskins Charitable Foundation. As those who knew Dave know, he was a huge supporter of the Christian music scene, so we’ve contacted a ton of Christian artists, and they’ve agreed to sign a CD or shirt or hat, a truly one-of-a-kind item! I’ll have a list of them up here soon.
Want to buy raffle tickets? Here’s the scoop:
If you’re interested in purchasing raffle tickets there are 3 ways to do so: #1. Stop by Immanuel Bible Church and ask for Bette (if you’re local), you can send a check with your current mailing address and contact information (if you’re not planning on joining us for the event or you’re not local, we’ll mail the items you’ve won). Or, if you’re really internet savvy, click the DONATE button to the right and pay with your credit card online. For every donation received after today, we’ll credit you with a ticket or tickets and automatically enter you in the raffle. We’ll get a notification of the donation and we’ll have all your info. To cut down on costs this time around, we avoided having any tickets designed or printed, so we will have records of who’s given money. For every $25 gift, we will award one “ticket” or chance in the drawing. For every $100 gift, we’ll award five “tickets” or chances in the drawing. A $50 gift will only get 2, $75 only gets 3 chances. If you have questions, please send them to info@davidchoproject.com.
These details are final, so please forward this around to those who may want to help Shelbie or just love the Redskins! See you April 17th!
BIG DAY
Written on 4 February 2008 by adminFriends,
Today was a momentous day. After lunch today, our gracious bookkeeper, Bette, dropped off a check to Bank of America for $77,346.16, COMPLETELY PAYING OFF THE 3RD MORTGAGE.
THANK YOU for your help in this. With the great response from our fall letter and the help from our friends at the FIVE LITTLE GIFTS campaign, people’s generosity has FDSC in a place where we are now 1/2 way toward paying off the 2nd mortgage of $127,000. The board, considering the response of Shelbie’s supporters, has made our next goal an ambitious one: to raise the second half and pay off the second mortgage by June 2008.
Our friends at WUSA9 news are broadcasting a follow-up to their December story tonight at either 5, 7, or 11. Tune in if you can, and if you miss it, you can CLICK HERE to read the story.
For those who knew Dave, you knew of his deep faith in God. We believe that God has done this work to care for the family of his servant, Dave, and that God’s heart is beating in you when you partner with us to care for Shelbie and the kids.
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress…

Shelbie Cho to appear on Channel 9 News
Written on 17 December 2007 by adminRumor has it that an interview done by Jennifer Ryan of D.C. local news channel 9 WUSA with Shelbie will air tomorrow (TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2007) on the 5pm EST news broadcast. There’s always a chance it won’t air, but the interview is fairly compelling, and a great chance for Shelbie’s story to get out there. If you can, try to watch it, and if you happen to record it, let me know so I can post it here for all to see! Thanks!
A LOT going on!!!
Written on 10 December 2007 by adminGreetings, Friends of David and Shelbie Cho!!! I wanted to update you on our work and progress so far. I’ll do bullet points to make for a quicker read, so here it goes:
#1 The letter… Many of you have received the letter that FDSC sent out (Thank you Joe, Don, and ESPECIALLY Bette!!! You’re an admin MACHINE!!!) several weeks ago. The response has been SO encouraging!!! Many of you have given significantly, and thanks to those gifts, the balance in the account has topped $75,000!
We may be able to pay off Shelbie’s first home equity loan
by Christmas!!!
This is incredible!!! Your generosity is overwhelming!!! If you haven’t gotten the letter that went out, you can VIEW IT HERE. To be very clear, the need is still GREAT… The generous severance from David’s employer is coming to an end, and Shelbie is left with few means of long term support other than what we at FDSC and your generosity can do for her. Don’t let this fade! The task before us is great, but SO worth it!
#2 Ongoing Support — Many of you very generous but very busy folks have asked for ongoing support options, and after a learning curve with PayPal, FDSC is pleased to offer those ongoing support options at 3 levels: $25/mo, $50/mo, and $100/mo. All of those commitments are for a term of 1 year, and expire after 12 payments. To sign up for those, click on the appropriate button! You don’t need to sign up for an account to use this service, either! Just click the USE YOUR CREDIT CARD link.

#3 Other efforts — There are several folks out there who are helping the Cho’s in various ways, and we’d like to acknowledge their efforts. For the sake of simplicity, FDSC won’t be promoting them, but we validate the motives behind what others are doing. It’s all to help Dave’s family! As you think of life this holiday season and feel led to partner with us to meet Shelbie and the kids’ most significant need, the retirement of their mortgage, you can click on the MAKE A DONATION button (NOT tax-deductible) on the right sidebar or send a financial gift via check to:

Childcare NEED — HELP!!!
Written on 24 November 2007 by admin! ! ATTENTION ! ! Friends of David and Shelbie Cho!!! Shelbie has found the childcare help that she needs, but is in need of regular support to help make that possible long term. She called and talked with me about it last night and asked that I post this cry for help.
If you’re interested in helping with a one-time gift or ongoing support, her needs are around $400/mo. Ongoing support as little as $25/mo. would be a HUGE help!!! If you’re a small group looking for a need to commit to meeting for a year, if you’re looking for something to give toward for the holidays, if you love her and know what raising 5 kids without a spouse is like and you’d like to share a little love, PLEASE email her directly!!!!
her address is: shelbiecho (at) cox.net
(you’ll need to retype that into your email)
Thank you to all of you who’ve stepped up in big and small ways. We recognize you’ve all been so generous to date, and we’re trusting God to help meet Shelbie’s needs.
Thank you, donors!
Written on 4 November 2007 by adminI wanted to give a shout out (of thanks!) to all the donors who’ve taken advantage of the “MAKE A DONATION” button and our PayPal service. You have given significantly, and the gifts are really coming! I’m glad that service helps… THANK YOU!!!!
We’ve gotten another round of paper checks as well, for amounts large and small. Every bit helps! I did some rough calculations this afternoon with the mortgage amounts, and while we haven’t reached our goal yet, a gift of $100 to this project is the equivalent of keeping Shelbie and the kids in the house for 3 additional days; the same house all 5 kids were brought home to, with many small projects Dave built with his own hands, a house FULL of memories, and a great location for their large family.
Thank you all SO MUCH for partnering with us to honor Dave and come alongside his wife and family in this new season of their lives.
Childcare Opportunity
Written on 2 November 2007 by adminHey all you Friends of David and Shelbie Cho!
Shelbie called and gave me some good news, which leads to an idea. She has found someone that has “clicked” with the kids, and Shelbie has hired this gal for 20 hours per week. That is fantastic news for Shelbie, and has led to an opportunity to partner with her.
We need families/small groups/individuals to help her cover the cost of this much needed help. If 12 folks/groups could “sponsor” childcare at $80-100 per month, that would be a HUGE help to her.
FDSC can not have a role in the financial side of this endeavor, but we can use this website to publicize the need. If you’re interested in partnering with Shelbie in this way, please email info@davidchoproject.com and you’ll be put into direct contact with Shelbie and can make your own arrangements.
On other news, Joe, Steve, and other FDSC faithful are putting together a mailing to get out before the holiday season. We’re still trying, this fall, to raise an additional $25,000 to be able to completely pay off the smallest home equity loan. Look for that in the coming weeks, and if you have folks that you’d like to share the opportunity with, feel free! Stay tuned for our April ‘08 reception, which is being worked on as I write (Thanks, Tracy!)
